The internship is UNPAID and full-time position.

The interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of Director – CAPSA/ Regional Adviser on Poverty Reduction and Food Security

The Centre for Alleviation of Poverty through Sustainable Agriculture (CAPSA) is a subsidiary body of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) with the goal of reducing poverty and enhancing food security by promoting best policy practices for sustainable agriculture in Asia and the Pacific

The programme:
CAPSA promotes a more supportive policy environment in member countries to enhance the living conditions of rural poor populations in disadvantaged areas, particularly those who rely on sustainable agriculture for their livelihood. The focus of CAPSA, therefore, is to network and collaborate with national agricultural research centers in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, promoting and coordinating research, highlighting and disseminating research findings; and converting the results of research into relevant policy options and strategies. Gender mainstreaming is envisioned to become an important component of knowledge sharing and policy advocacy in the overall research agenda.

The role of agriculture in achieving an inclusive growth in Asia and the Pacific has received a greater focus in the recent past due to the 2007/08 food crisis followed by the global financial crisis. CAPSA, a regional institution of ESCAP, aims to play a proactive role in strengthening the capacity of member governments in undertaking agricultural policy analysis and capacity building.
The UN Intern will assist the Director or the Regional Adviser in reviewing agricultural policies, strategies and good practices and their impact on food security, sustainable agriculture and rural development in the Asia-Pacific region.
