Org. Setting and Reporting

The Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Regional Office for South-East Asia’s Administrative Services Section internship is for 6 months.

The internship is unpaid and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff .

Must be currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree Programme (or equivalent) in business administration, accounting, finance, marketing, law, or international relations.

Interns learning opportunities:
Understand the administrative functioning of the UN system including OHCHR and ESCAP in particular; Introduced to the rules, regulations, and policy governing administration and operation of the office including UN Internship Programme; General practical experience in the field of administration and finance; Practical experience on preparation and execution of UN meetings, international/national events and other events; Exposure to the work of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in South‐East Asia and human rights related work in other UN agencies; Exposure to a multicultural work environment, and interaction with colleagues across various offices at OHCHR and/or other UN agencies in Bangkok and Headquarters.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance and direction of the Head of the Office, and under the direct supervision of the Senior Administrative Assistant, the intern will perform the following duties:
• Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, seminars and ad hoc meetings;
• Assist in maintaining and updating financial records/files;
• Assist in administrative operations of the office including OHCHR ROB Internship Programme;
• Assist in checking and updating announcement of internship programme in various websites and universities;
• Assist in maintaining and updating administrative databases;
• Assist in keeping records, maintaining and updating electronic files;
• Assist in maintaining and updating internal office guidelines and manuals;
• Assist in disseminating information, publications, and invitations;
• Other ad‐hoc assignments as required by the Head of the Office, or direct supervisor.

-Takes personal responsibility for his/her own shortcomings and those of the work unit, where applicable.

Education

Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school(second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least fours years of full-studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.

Be computer literate in standard software applications;

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
