The Cabin Safety Expert will report to the Cabin Safety Section Manager of the Experts Department within the Certification Directorate, and will assist Project Certification Managers (PCMs) and Certification Teams in dealing with the day to day regulatory activities for projects being conducted by the Agency.
The jobholder will be in particular responsible for:
- Verifying the demonstrations provided by applicants for compliance with applicable airworthiness and operational requirements in the domain of cabin safety, under the coordination of the Project Certification Manager and in cooperation with experts of other disciplines. This will include working on projects ranging from large aircraft, to general aviation and rotorcraft. The main technical areas covered by the cabin safety expert’s role include fire protection of occupied areas and cargo compartments, occupant crashworthiness aspects, emergency evacuation and cargo loading and restraint systems;
- Ensuring that required Cabin Safety standards are maintained post-Type Certification by assessing relevant information, including service experience, and by taking appropriate follow up action where necessary;
- Participating in the development of interpretations of existing requirements to cover issues such as new technologies, novel applications of technologies and novel proposals for compliance showing;
- Providing advice in the development of new airworthiness requirements, including relevant parts of EASA Certification Specifications and operational rules and related advisory and guidance material, in cooperation with the EASA Rulemaking Directorate;
- Liaising with and assisting Cabin Crew Experts in regards to aircraft cabin operational aspects;
- Acting as a source of advice for EASA’s assessment of approved design organisations, and accreditation and standardisation oversight of EU National Airworthiness Authorities (NAAs);
- Acting as a source of assistance and advice outside the Agency (i.e. to industry, academic organisations and governments).

To be considered eligible, candidates must satisfy all the eligibility criteria by the deadline for submitting applications, as specified in this vacancy notice:
- At least a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies attested by a diploma when the normal period of university education is four years or more and, after having obtained the university degree, at least 3 years of professional experience;
Where justified in the interest of the service, professional training of an equivalent level, in a relevant technical domain and, after having completed the professional training, at least the professional experience indicated in the table below:

Thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the European Communities and a satisfactory knowledge of another language of the Communities to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties;
- Be a national of a Member State of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland;
- Be entitled to the full rights as a citizen;
- Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws on military service;
- Meet the character requirements for the duties involved;
- Be physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post.

1. Essential requirements
- A minimum of one year professional experience, in one or more of the cabin safety technical areas outlined in the job content above;
- Professional experience in aircraft cabin safety related certification processes;
- Knowledge of technical and safety requirements relevant to aircraft cabin safety as shown by professional experience and/or training;
- Knowledge of the EASA Certification Specifications (CS) and related administrative and technical procedures as shown by training or professional experience;
- Good command of both written and spoken English.
2. Advantageous requirements
- Good knowledge in one or more fields of aircraft cabin safety as shown by training or experience;
- Good knowledge of the aviation organisations and industry operating within the scope of the job description as shown by professional experience and/or training;
- Experience in working in an international environment.
